Watch Over Aurora Skies - The Leonid Meteor Shower

Around this time, this year exactly November 17, 2009 - the Leonid Meteor shower puts on the show - as the Earth passes by the trail of debris from the Tempel-Tutte commet. The shower is called Leonid because is found around the same area of the Leo constellation. The Tempel-Tutte comet orbits the sun every 33 years, this year it will be somehow closer to the Earth thus the more spectacular and brighter show, pending the skies are clear. So far it is almost 1 o'clock in the morning in Aurora, Ontario, skies are clear and illuminated with many many stars. I have seen two shooting stars already, and will be watching for more. It is a bit too cold to go out there and photograph the shower, as I did in the past back in August 2007, the Aurigids Meteor Shower over the Aurora - 'Meteor Shower - Its Not That Easy to Photograph'. Enjoy and happy watching for today.

I meant to go out and look but it was too cold for me!

Wow! I'd love to say I meant to go out and look, but it was WAY past my bedtime. I once sat in a lawnchair past midnight waiting for the lunar eclipse. Next time I checked my watch it was all done and over.
